Support Sabino Instrumental ...(by applying some of your Arizona State Income Tax to Sabino Instrumental)

Arizona tax law (ARS 43-1089.01) allows Arizona taxpayers to take a Tax Credit of up to $200 (up to $400 for married joint filers) by contributing to support extracurricular activities in Arizona schools. More specifically, this means you can direct part of your Arizona tax towards supporting the Sabino Instrumental program. This credit is available to all Arizona taxpayers, not just those who have a student enrolled in Sabino. Therefore, other family members and friends who are Arizona taxpayers are eligible to make a tax credit donation.

Since the cost to you is nothing, this is probably the easiest way to donate to the Sabino Instrumental Program. By making a tax credit contribution to Sabino Instrumental, you’re taking a small portion of the Arizona tax you would normally pay and directing it towards Sabino Instrumental. To make a donation, simply print out the attached form and enclose your check made payable to the Sabino High School c/o Instrumental Music Program. Mail or drop off your check to the Sabino High School office by the deadline shown on the form. You will be given a receipt for your contribution, which you’ll use when you file your Arizona State Taxes.

Attention Raytheon Employees: Raytheon will match your Tax Credit contribution. After you send in your Tax Credit Form and check to Sabino High School, visit the Raytheon Website at https://www.easymatch.com/raytheon and complete a matching form.

Would you prefer to donate On-Line? TUSD offers a wonderful webpage with in depth explanations on the Arizona Tax Credit program and with an on-line option to donate. Choosing to use this on-line option allows you to donate using your credit card rather than writing a check and mailing it in to the school. When using the TUSD form, you will need to select

  1. School: Sabino
  2. Activity: Fine Arts
  3. Activity Description (Specify): Band or Orchestra
  4. Amount of your Donation: up to $200 (individual) or $400 (joint)

Tax Credit Q & A: Plain Talk

Q. How much will this cost me to participate?
A . Actually, the cost to you is nothing. Whatever amount you contribute to the Tax Credit program will be deducted from the amount of state tax you would normally have paid for this year. In a sense, this is a fund-raiser that's paid for by the state of Arizona. You just have to make the first move by making a contribution.

Q. I usually calculate my taxes so that I break even every year. How would contributing to the tax program affect me?
A. If you owe no state taxes at the end of the year and make a contribution to the Tax Credit program, the state of Arizona would carry the amount of your contribution into next year and apply it towards the amount of state tax you would pay next year.

Q. How much can I contribute to the Tax Credit program?
A . If you are a single taxpayer, you can contribute up to a maximum of $200. Married taxpayers can contribute up to a maximum of $400. The Arizona IRS will deduct your contribution from the amount of state tax you would normally have paid for the year.

Q. I pay taxes throughout the year, but usually end up paying some in to Arizona. If I contribute to the Tax Credit program, how will I be affected?
A . Whatever amount you contributed to the Tax Credit program will be subtracted from the amount that you would normally pay to the Arizona IRS for the year.

Q. How does this program work?
A . If you write a check to the Tax Credit program before December 20, 2008, you'll receive a receipt from Sabino High School. Then, when you file your state taxes, just include the receipt with your tax form. The amount on the receipt will be deducted from the amount of Arizona state tax you would normally pay for the year.

Q. I am not the parent of a student in the Sabino Instrumental program, but I know of a student who is. Can I still make a contribution to the Tax Credit program?
A . Yes! If you are a taxpayer in the state of Arizona, you can contribute to the Tax Credit program. The Arizona IRS will recognize any contribution you make, even if you're not the parent of a Sabino student. In fact, friends and relatives of Sabino students are encouraged to participate in this program.

Q. Will my contribution really make it to the Sabino Instrumental program, or will it get absorbed into some big general fund?
A . Our Tax Credit form allows you to direct your contribution to the Band, Orchestra or Sabino Instrumental fund. Your contribution won't go anywhere else!

Q. What will the money be spent on?
A . We incur unexpected expenses during the school year. Equipment breaks, instruments need repair, upgrades are needed to existing devices. In addition, we purchase new equipment each year. In the past, tax credits have been used to purchase instruments, equipment, special lighting, music, entry fees, rental trucks, stands and chairs. Your contribution supports all of the students in the performing arts programs and increases the opportunities for your student.
